Hi out there.
I've got a problem after I installed NIS on my LAN. Every client on the network started having problem with booting and shutdowns. More specifically, it was after I inserted "nis" 3 times in the /etc/nsswitch as suggested in the howto on http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_NIS .
On boot, the process seems to hang on portmap. After a timeout, of some sort, there is some/several error messages regarding NFS.
On shutdown, the process hang on killing the "lo". If I was fortunate enough to log in on the console, I can enter "reboot" to ensure an instant reboot.
Either the NIS is not set up correctly, or there is some problem with some dependencies during booting and shutdown. I've followed the procedure on http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_NIS as good as I could.
What does work: Log in on a NIS client after the client is finally up and running. NFS shares are accessible after a "mount -a".
Any suggestions? _________________ Kind regards.
