Hi, I just performed an emerge update world and now all of the icons in both KDE3 and Gnome 1.4 are not there! Additionally, I get weird errors and I am left befuddled. If anybody know what could possibly have happened I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks. |

I did the same thing now my enlightenment windows are all messed up, I have no idea what happened though. Gnome, icewm, and blackbox were unaffected though. I did the emerge update world two days ago. I'm gonna do another one and hope that fixes it. |

It sounds like my problem is different from yours, but I'll tell you what happened on my box. I ran Konqueror in a terminal and found out that it was missing libpng. I found out there were two versions on my box, so I unemerged the old one. That still left me with problems, so I got rid of libpng completely, re-emerged and it STILL didn't work. Finally, I found out that the new version had a different file name than the version it was looking for, so I just copied it over and voila! |

So yea - it sounds like you are having my problem. Check to see if libpng is your problem by typing this:
Code: | emerge search libpng |
If it says you have two versions, you are probably having the same problem |

The more I look into it, the more little problems I seem to be having. Certain apps have trouble loading png's (Galeon's little spinner isn't working, the Gimp, etc). Anybody have a better solution?? |

I unmerge libpng and emerge it then created symlinks using the old names to the new and now gnome starts up correctly again. Thanks. Enlightenment still wont start though. Are there any logs that keep track of what the last few emerge commands changed? |

I rebooted and enlightenment works now. I guess i'll test everything else to see if anything else was screwed up. |

I've had problems with enlightenment, galeon, the gimp, and probably a few more. Seems like recompiling them worked. _________________ - Kyle Manna
