Hey everyone,

Whenever I try to play a DVD using Xine, the video is rather choppy. I know that this is a DMA problem because DMA is disabled. Only problem is that I can't figure out what kernel config will work and will let me use DMA. I get the following:
Code:

 hdparm -d 1 /dev/cdrom

/dev/cdrom:
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 using_dma    =  0 (off)

What do I do to the kernel? As stated in the subject, I've got an Intel 915GM Express chipset. I've already tried the PIIX setting in the kernel. Any comments?

Thanks.

Still no dice, even with the newest (2.6.14) kernel. I followed everything in http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Toshiba_Satellite_M40X but /dev/sr0 does not want to mount at all. Any suggestions?

Oh, yes. I was able to get ACPI working (more or less), but I can't get ieee80211 re-emerged. Everytime I try, it tells me that I can't (it says there are instances of a previous install). Nothing I do (I've rm'd the ieee80211.h file from the kernel) fails.

SOLVED!

Alrighty, looks like I've got this finally under control. What I needed to do was build SCSI CD-ROM support into the kernel (not just emulation; actual CD-ROM support). I will post my kernel configuration later.
