Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but... whatever.. close enough.

I recently did a new Gentoo install... had a few problems but worked them out mostly.*

However, I am having some graphics problems. The chip is an Intel 82865G.
Code:

0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface (rev 02)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0
        Memory at f8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
        Capabilities: [e4] #09 [1106]

Code:

        Identifier  "Card0"
        Driver      "i810"
        VendorName  "Intel Corp."
        BoardName   "82865G Integrated Graphics Device"
        BusID       "PCI:0:2:0"

PPRacer has these odd highlights for some reason. (I'm not running Composite... the screenshot grabber added a shadow on its own)

Also, Blender seems to segfault every now and then when rendering. (2.37a)
These probably aren't related to the Intel chip since I have it on the laptop as well.

Anyway, the main annoyance is: a lot of the screensavers in rss-glx act oddly.

Skyrocket, Cyclone, Hufos Tunnel, Hufos Smoke, and Euphoria work fine.

Helios and Flux work except that (always for helios, in some modes for flux) the grahpics do this sweeping thing... hard to describe in words... I'll get a shot.
http://dnas.outer-heaven.net/xscreensaver-sweep.png
(This is grabbed from the preview, scaled up, and brightened so the effect can be seen.)
Instead of doing some of the motion blur-type stuff, it will just color those pixels with a solid color (The masses of solid color... they aren't due to image compression) and keep them colored until another sweep recolors them.

The rest will run for a second and then immediately restart and run for a second and restart, etc. - FIXED

Running xscreensaver-demo in a terminal gives this error when switching to and from an rss-glx screensaver (for all of them, working or not):
Code:

X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  142 (XFree86-DRI)
Minor opcode of failed request:  9 ()
Value in failed request:  0x1c0047a (this part changes each report)
Serial number of failed request:  32
Current serial number in output stream:  32

And... I don't know if this tells anything, but, running glxgears gives me
Code:
Broken pipe

when I exit. - Never mind... that's apparently normal

So... any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

* One of my problems was selecting the i810 driver instead of i915 in the kernel at first. I had compiled a lot of programs with that setting as well. Could these problems have anything to do with that? And what should I re-emerge in that case? I'd rather not emerge -e world again... (Xorg has been recompiled already as well as rss-glx and gave no better results, so if anything, it's another package.)

Also, I had some problems with the clock which maybe have caused stuff not to build??? But later I ran an emerge -e world, so I think it's fine...

Okay, I solved one of the problems. :)

For some odd reason, I kept the mcpu=i686 in and added a march=pentium4... recompiling rss-glx (and the opengl related apps while I was at it) fixed the resetting problem.

But the sweeping coloring problem still exists. And it seems to be in a couple other screensavers as well (didn't notice it before)

Does the Intel 82865G just not display certain things properly?
