hi,

i had some problems with KDE, tried to fix them and made it even worse :/

However now, i want to remove every trace of KDE and every version i've collected and not yet unmerged (3.3, 3.4, parts of 3.5_beta1) and try KDE 3.5_beta2

i've done this
Quote:

emerge unmerge kde*/*

However /usr/kde ist still there and if i want to reemerge KDE i become a lot of
Warnings

Quote:

[..]
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
INCOMPLETE MERGE: /var/db/pkg/kde-base/-MERGING-kde-3.3.2
[..]

They are not new at all, i've them since i emerged KDE 3.3.2 but somehow they are going to anoy me :/
(They seem to scream, stupid bastard, try to catch us *g)

How can i get rid of them

run
Code:

emerge -C kde

followed by
Code:

emrge -p depclean

make sure that there are NO packges in list that you still need..- if there are any, add them to
Code:

/var/lib/portage/world

then run
Code:

emerge depclean

and
Code:

rm -R /home/youruser/.kde*

that should do it..

I was told NOT to run -depclean when removing KDE. If I understand correctly it isn't working the way it should for KDE yet. (Please feel free to correct me if I misunderstood that) I just recently moved from the monolithic e-builds to the split ebuilds and, as such, had my own issues removing KDE. If you're removing a monolithic set try running:

Code:
emerge -C kdeaddons kdeaccessibility kdepim kdesdk kdenetwork kdeartwork kdetoys kdeutils kdewebdev kdeadmin kdebase kdeedu kdemultimedia kdegraphics kdegames

Add to that list the keyword you used to initially install KDE (so for me I just ran 'emerge kde' so I added kde to the end of that list. Pretend first ( just in case  ) but doing this made everything nice and clean. If emerge gives you an error saying that it can't find one of those packages, then just ignore it since it isn't on your system anyway.

I imagine that removing the split e-build version of kde would be even simpler, since you should know what you've installed already.

dunno about kde in specific.. I don't use it, but I'd guess that is there is no package asking for all the kde stuff in world anymore (which is when you unmerge it) the remainig packages should be removed by depclean..- if not you'd see it by running
Code:

emerge -p depclean

if there are no kde packages listed, they won't be uninstalled. Anyway I think that's not been the problem that causes the warnings when trying to reinstall kde.. deleting
Code:

/var/db/pkg/kde-base/*

should di that I guess

However, it is too late now :)

The only mistake i see right now is do delete /var/db/pkg/kde-base/* while emerging kde 3.5_beta2 :)
Did not thought of the consequences and now i can emerge kde again :/
