Driver Help PLEASE

Hi I have a notebook. I have windows and also I trying to put linux on, (i know its crazy should just use linux)

However, in locating drivers for both linux and windows I am having the problem that a friend of mine bought the computer online. It is an alevia computer. I know the bios is sis746, but the video driver and a few other drivers are not instlled. The fan goes off in on and once it was in for service, and fixed with xp on it. I reformatted to load Xp and linux and now fan is going off and on again. I have a feeling this is a maybe a driver thing too.

THE PROBLEM IS

I can probably get any driver I need at driver download.com, BUT WHICH DRIVERS. I know bios sis746, but the video card shows up on the XP device manager as under other devices along with PCI modem (don't care) and multimedia audio controller, and then the fan thing is annoying. To havea shot at linux I would at least need to know the manufacturuer. I assumed SIS since that is the MB, but I have no idea which drivers to look for. Without taking apart the notebook how the hell can I figure out which drivers I need, my friend lost the disc and I have next to no info. I have use some driver scanners, but all uselsess. PLEASE HELP
