Background:
I share this computer with another user. Most of the time we are both logged in, switching between our respective Gnome desktops with CTRL+ALT+F7/F8 as needed (which works very well by the way ).
Now I've bought an IR receiver so I can control XMMS and Mplayer with a cheap remote control, and have successfully set up LIRC to do so (which was a bit of a struggle, but it does work).
Problem:
If both users are logged in, remote control commands are received by both users' desktops, and acted upon. For example, pressing play on the remote causes 2 instances of XMMS to start playing their playlists - one for each user (causing a cacophony). Changing the volume will change both users' volume etc.
Ideally only remote commands for the currently active desktop would be acted upon - the keyboard's multimedia keys work in this fashion (using the XMMS iTouch plugin). Any ideas how I might be able to achieve what I want? |
