I have purchased a new laptop, with the intel i915GM. I've followed the various threads on the forum to get dri and xv working and that's great. However, currently, the bios only seems to be allocating 8MB of memory to the video card. If I switch to the windows side (which pains me greatly), it says the video card is allocated 128MB. However, xorg seems to agree with the bios, and says it's only got 8MB allocated to it:
Code:
matt@localhost ~ $ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep memory
(II) Bus 0 non-prefetchable memory range:
(II) Bus 0 prefetchable memory range:
(II) Bus 1 non-prefetchable memory range:
(II) Bus 1 prefetchable memory range:
(II) Bus 2 non-prefetchable memory range:
(II) Bus 2 prefetchable memory range:
(II) I810(0): detected 7932 kB stolen memory.
(II) I810(0): Activating tiled memory for the back buffer.
(II) I810(0): Activating tiled memory for the depth buffer.

In my xorg.conf, I have set:
Code:
    VideoRam    131072

However, this doesn't seem to have any effect on things.

The first thing people are going to say is why don't you change the bios. And the answer is because the f*%$ing bios won't let me - it's an insyde software scu bios on an acer laptop, and all the indications on the web are that this bios doesn't allow you to configure anything much which is making me very grumpy.

Anyway, is there a way to override the bios, and force the issue from inside linux?

Any help appreciated.

Yes. That's how I got dri and xv working. The problem is that the bios is set to 8MB of videoram, and I can't change anything in the bios. I was wondering if the bios setting can be overridden, or ignored.
