I was just browsing the Acer website (I have a Travelmate 2300 laptop) and noticed that they're now making available Linpus, the linux distribution that they ship on some of their computers (mostly in Asia, I think). Here's the link:

I have no desire to throw over gentoo for linpus, but I am curious if someone with more technical know-how than I have can extract useful drivers from the distribution.

That was a major disappointment. I downloaded the Linpus live cd, thinking it might be finely tuned for Acer computers. But I can't get it started -- it keeps hanging up during the hardware detection phase.
