|
|
i use hald, dbus and ivman (+kde)
when i connect an usb (2.0) stick it gets outomounted and i can read / write
read speed is fine, about 10 mb/s
but write speed is only about 30-40 kb/s
when i unmount and manually remount (mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/test) everything works fine, read and write speed about 10 mb/s
the problem occured both on my pentium-m laptop and my amd64 desktop
i also use a usb storage disc, it works just fine with automound, about 20-25 mb/s read and write when automounted without any problems
any ideas? |

Didn't know how automount works, but the issue with low write speed is often caused by synchronous writings. So normaly if writing to your usb drive, a part of the data is kept in memory and gets stored when unmounting the USB drive. If specifing the "sync" option (e.g. in your fstab) data gets completely written to your usb drive. But I've heard muliple times about low writing speed when using synchronous writes. So I think you use the sync option and therefore your speed is that bad. But don't ask me where to remove the sync option since I've never used automount and therefore I don't know where all the se options are specified.
Mfg

usb stick, they use usbfs afaik
i have no idea how to look at the sync option since i use automounting how to turn it off?
btw its definitivly sync related, i did mount that usb stick manually with sync turned on and its slow like automount
manual mount without sync is fast
and it seems to be fs-related since my usb storage disc (XFS) workes fine
even better then turning sync off (possible data loss on usb sticks) would be to speed it up ... is that possible? if not turning it off would work for now ... how to do so when automounting? |

thx didnt include that sync keyword in my previous search
editing /usr/share/hal/fdi/90default-policy/storage-policy.fdi did it and the file is quite easy to understand |
