Well, first time installing Gentoo on a laptop, and it's been going fairly well. I do, however, have a couple problems that I can not fix. One is Xorg (well, like 3, but whos counting). First off, Xorg (6.8.2-r6) takes up 20% almost constantly meaning that cpufreqd can't really work and stuff is slow(er). I'm thinking of upgrading to the masked version, but maybe someone can give me some help before a 2hr compile. I have seen nothing unusual in Xorg.0.log and have nothing unusual in my xorg.conf. Which brings me to my second Xorg problem. This laptop has an ATI Rage 64 (Mach64) and I emerged x11-drm and have DRI working and such, but I am getting very, very poor performance in glxgears and Unreal Tournament (which, I have heard, works fairly well). Do I try the cvs, because one of the disclaimers was that mach64 was under heavy development?

Now I come to cpufreqd and cpufrequtils. Everything works fine using cpufreq-set I can change governors and speeds, except for one, ondemand. I have it compiled in the kernel and it say it is available in /sys/..../available_governors but I can't seem to change to it. But also, if I have cpufreqd properly configured and I set the governor to userspace it cpufreqd used?

And lastly (hopefully), the Fn keys. I hear people have gotten them working, but they don't seem to show up when pressed in xev. I do have the latest BIOS that is supposed to fix it, and I did fix up my ACPI too (yay, suspend!). I also have the Compaq Laptop (Armada) Keyboard Layout in xorg.conf.

Thanks for your help with this laptop newbie.
:D

Okay, I got cpufreqd and cpufrequtils working together so that when I unplug the AC cord it goes into performance mode, but I still haven't found a way to use my Fn keys.

Thanks.
