I been getting a load of segfaults recently, from opening an aterm for example (I have to ctrl+d out of it in the instant or so after I restart e17 to get control of me desktop back again).
Also, is it possible to switch desktop by grabbing an application with the mouse and moving it left/right onto the next screen but *without* the desktop switching when the mouse touches the edge of the screen (when it's not holding an application window))? I think it used to be but it seems to have disappeared. |

Yes, e17 is crashing on the occasional desktop switch, and when dragging objects in the pager, and when adjusting shelf properties. Also, a myriad of annoying error messages crop up when configuring virtually any aspect of it. The version I compiled four months ago ran so much more smoothly. This whole shelf thing is a usability nightmare. It should be easy to move modules around anywhere you want them, instead of dicking around with these crashy shelf things. Yes, I know it's alpha-fix-it-myself-blah-blah, but it's nonetheless frustrating when something that worked well for a year or more is suddenly a pain in the ass. Oh, well. Update again sometime and hope for the best. |

I ran into the same problems also when turning the "Bling" module on. Now I don't know if you have already disabled it or anything, but try removing that and see if that helps out your problem. I know my e, was segfaulting all the time with that blasted module on. After removing/disabling it, it has fixed my problem.

well the password in mail has now stopped causing segfaults... now I just can't get Imap to work on it... but that is another story.
The segfaults have calmed down.
Yep that Bling module caused me hell. I had a lot of trouble removing it too cause it would segfault whenever I tried... had to disable it first with command line and then remove it with command line also. _________________ The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. |

Yeah all I did was jsut remove it from /usr/lib64/enlightenment/modules/bling... My segfaults, that cut me to my desktop stop happening as bad. This recent update has made me crash a bit more often, meaning I get the white screen asking what I want to do.

The newest cvs is segfaulting a lot with me as well, but its almost bearable considering how fast it takes to restart. Thank god it doesnt crash all the running programs, I wouldn't be using it for sure if that happened.
Deisler,
What directions were you following to install enlightenment? It's not as easy as just emerging that one package.

It was crashing everything down to the xorg server for me, which was a terrible pain considering it did so while I was in the middle of removing pam.login and replacing it with the new shadow package. I updated from cvs last night and most of the trouble seems to have gone away, which makes me a big whiner. |

How often do you get the white box segfault? I would say I get one every 20 minutes or so depending on how active I am being switching desktops and such. I have a dual monitor display too so I'm sure that doesnt help.

@astnbomb: Haven't had any since an update last night! And I flipped though desktops for quit a while trying to provoke the porblem. Also, no more error messages crop up when using the coniguration panel anymore. I seem to have caught a fairly stable snapshot. (That's the sound of me knocking on wood in the background) |

@Deisler: I got the same error message as you and solved it by emerging dev-libs/eet-9999.

Hi,
I am also facing compile errors of the e_modules.
Output of the error below.
I use AMD64 stable, GCC 4.1 and Xorg 7 (though maybe the latter is irrelevant).
I have synced today and uses the sf CVS.
Anybody have a clue?
thanks,
R.

I think the proposed e_modules ebuild (in page 37) should make it officially into the portage.
The modules are becoming increasingly unstable and the problematic ones are usually the least useful ones (I got compile error with module 'moon' !!)
Has anyone tried Xgl + E17 ??
Xgl without compiz and gnome-window-decorator is useless.... so one should run Xgl + compiz (+ gnome-window-manager?) + E17 to get the full effect....
anyone ever tried that? is that how it's supposed to be?
I couldn't get compiz + E17 running on top of Xgl... it seems they're both classified as window-managers |

Hi RyoHazuki,
read entry from 21:01 of this. Seems that the dev asks himself the same question
Is solved, just wait till is updated on public cvs. _________________ ESTRAGON: We've lost our rights?

Hello,
It seems that something I updated is messing up my mplayerplug-in in firefox. Whenever I open a video file in firefox, e17 gives me a message saying I can't open "aoss firefox". I have a feeling that it's enlightenment causing this because aoss firefox is the executable for the firefox eap. However, it could be something else, so I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.
John

Have any of you guys expereinced a problem where whenever you restart or exit out of e17 it deletes your config files and makes you start all over on configuring your desktop ? Themes, backgrounds, and init screens are still therebut all module config files are gone...
Any of you guys run into this issue also ?
Well, I mean some of the configs are not there, it is like the desktop config files for the different shelves get screwed up.

Its probably some coder error in the software. Many of the CVS releases are still in development and the ones they release are meant for dev's to try out and find any bugs. Wait a bit and a stable version might be released. _________________ Registered Linux User #387568

okay
1st thing; on my list, on my laptop (amd64~) I have rebuilt e and efl with a script that emerges all from CVS (-*) the order and packages are taken right of off the get-e website and pasted into my script. Things seem to be running okay, but one thing that I have noticed that is driving me nutz is when I bring up a menu, the flashing highlighted effect is rather "garbled" as it reaches the bottom right hand corner of the animation. Has anyone else noticed any thing like this?
2nd thing; is every time I emerge emotion I still am running into a sandbox violation, now my workaround was to add a Code: | &&FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge emotion && | in the middle of my build script. My question is, is there a /etc/portage/package.foobar file that I can edit to pass this argument to that package permanently?
3rd thing; where is the proper spot to put a e17setroot -s /blah/blah/blah.edj argument so that it is executed all the time at startup?
4th thing; after this fresh rebuid, eap_edit (or what ever the new e_utils thing is called) segfaults right away, has anyone dealt with this as well?
I think that covers my questions for today....
thanks for the replies? _________________ AMD AthlonXP 2800+

man, I'm about ready to give up on e17 ! It ran fine for a while, but a couple weeks ago I updated my profile to 2006.0 and then emerged anew the e17 cvs, and apart form entrace it wouldn't run at all. Every couple days I have done a complete re-emerge according to a script pasted off some website (gentoo-wiki? gentoo forums ? get-e ?) and the last couple times of re-emerging, when I log in off entrace, I get a grey screen with a black X for a cursor, that does nothign, blinks twice, and returns to entrance. So I have just been running an older version of fluxbox for the last while, but fluxbox is a little to featureless for me. Can anyone figure out my ailments before I just go emerge gnome or something like that ? |

hi, do you have a shelf with the modules added with 'Configure Content'?
to update just re-emerge e stuff or re-run the script, if thats the case, you use to install.
@NorthGoingZax
do you tried to delete you actual e installation and any modules emerged, rm .e and .ecore directories clean cvs dir and emerge all from clean? _________________ ESTRAGON: We've lost our rights?
