|
|
Okay I went through the install and changed the root password when asked to and everything. Now i'm finally done installing and I can't login to root. I am 99% sure I have the password right and I created another account during installation and I can also not login to that account. I attemped to go back into the live cd, mount everything, and chroot back into the environment to change the root password. That said and done it still does not allow me to log in with the password I provided. Any help would be appreciated, I finally got it working and I would really love to be able to log in, lol |

Hi.
Just a thought, but are you using any special chars in your password? Have you set a non US-English locale in your new system? If so, try using a password without special chars.
If you have a different problem, try to use a simple password just to test and then try to login. If that works, replace your password with your desired password. If it doesn't work, you'll need to look deeper. _________________ Jorge.

Nah didn't touch the keymap, left it as was so it should be just normal us keyboard. No special characters or anything, just letters and numbers. Soon as my download finishes im going to restart and attempt to change password again. |

There's no default password. If you didn't set it when you installed Gentoo, then start with the live-cd, mount the partitions, chroot and set the password. _________________ Jorge.

Instead of booting from the livecd and chrooting you could just boot the system into single user mode (no password required) and then set the root password.

When you booted with the live CD and did the chroot (and other stuff) did you try setting the password to a very simple password? You can change it afterwards if that works... ... _________________ http://www.brokenspoke.ca

What commands are you using when you chroot? If its not chrooting correctly, you could just be changing the root password for the livecd and not your install. |

Is this happening when you try to login as root directly or when you login as a user and attempt to use "su -" to gain root priveleges? If the latter, please try adding yourself to the "wheel" group. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

What is the error message? Have you removed pam from your use flags with "-pam" or "-*"? It's required.

Glad to hear you got it working. You should post what fixed it just in case someone else has the same problem. As for your X problem, Check your xorg.conf file and make sure its using /dev/input/mice for the mouse device. |
