better change the topic and add sth as support for the portage builds also, so if we could to fight the bugs out to ready it for the final release.
I'm also on rebuilding the whole system with as-needed (world, system was successfull and it is fun - it is faster), so for now could not help.

Just changing name on www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5_rc1-r1 to www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5_rc2-r1 seems to work also... (compiling at the moment)
Much more dependencis then the ebuild in this thread however..

Edit: noop, didnt work...
Trying wunos way now...

Try /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox
or /usr/lib/mozilla_firefox/firefox-bin
and see what for errors it will print out. I could not test it as I'm still rebuilding my system, probably tomorrow, if wuno could not do it earlier:).
BTW asa dotzler has said again sth funny - <irony>this will be the final release<\irony> meaning that they will probably will just rename it http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2005/11/rc2_update.html.
As I look at the patches and the recently reappeared XUL-forms locking (save as dialogs and so on) it seems to me more as final alpha... but that's just me

Which ebuild did you use, and system? I see no problems here using our _rc3.ebuild updated only to pull the correct tarball (on x86).

Ok, I've successfully built rc2 using an ebuild merged from ours and the rc1 ebuild from portage. It uses the mozconfig-2.eclass from portage and works. I will send it tomorrow to Gergan for review. Hopefully his world is then build up again

I used the zyne's 1.5_rc3 ebuild

Code:

USE="-gnome mozpango mozsvg thebes" emerge -av mozilla-firefox

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Have you checked if there is a firefox process running?
if so killall firefox might fix it.

I had that problem with 1.5_rc1 from portage.

As my system is similar to yours, that should not be the problem. The thebes USE flag works only with firefox from the trunk, dunno if this causes the troubles, as you emerged ff-1.5 with thebes (never tried it). What about your profile, are you upgrading from 1.0.x or downgrading from trunk-cvs? Sometimes it help to let the new version create its own profile. (Be sure to backup your .mozilla/firefox directory in your home directory before renaming it)

thebes should not be a problem, as I tested it earlier several times and it is checked in the eclass:
Code:
   declare FC=$([[ ${PN} == *firefox-cvs ]] && echo true || echo false)
   ....
if use thebes && ${FC}; then
       mozconfig_annotate thebes --enable-default-toolkit=cairo-gtk2
   else
       mozconfig_annotate -thebes --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2
   fi

but I have a similiar problem with firefox-cvs, after extracting the stage4 tarballs - all was working except firefox-cvs, which simply does not start and it was working before my harddisk problems. I'll see if after the rebuild the problem will be resolved or there is more to it.
I don't know, the portage-version removes the pseudo registration we are making - wuno, have you tested what is the result of this, because as Leo Lausren said
Quote:
I had that problem with 1.5_rc1 from portage.
I think it could lead to such problems also?

I remerge it without "thebes". It's OK now.thanks all.

I opened a new thread for firefox-1.5rc2
look here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-401525-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-.html
Updated ebuilds are sent to Zyne and bbe, so hopefully in some hours you can download them. I made several changes to get them more in sync with the official ebuild.

I hacked the eclass so thebes was enabled in the RC2 ebuild, but it wouldn't compile :/.

It won't work as thebes is not complete in the mozilla-1.8-branch. If you want to use thebes, you may emerge the mozilla-firefox-cvs-9999.ebuild. However, there were recent checkins for thebes into the trunk that are not yet reflected in the ebuild (I want to review the ebuild, yet I hadn't the time, sorry). So you have to find the lines
Code:
#removing thebes, if someone would like to build cairo-gtk, should uncomment it
        if use thebes; then
                epatch ${FILESDIR}/firefox-thebes.patch
        fi
and remove them , digest and then it should build, good luck.

How about a handy mozilla-thunderbird-cvs ? ;)
I' really miss this, guys, among your offered .ebuid; although, your builds rock! :D That'd be just great to have thunderbird cvsed, too; thanks!

Now I'm building mozilla-firefox-cvs. I'm pretty „green“ at this yet, thus which version will be build via this cvs? Which branch (1.0.* or >=1.5)? Will this cvs.ebuild be needed to be updated, whence mozilla-firefox jumps to =>1.6?

Thanks! :)

And, oh, BTW, how could I track your Ebuilds? Would be great, if you guyz had some RSS or something, in order to rapidly know, when the freshest ebuilds come up :)

Youre doing a great job (heh, everyone knows this :)))

First thanks:)
About the questions - mozilla-firefox-cvs will build past-1.5 firefox, there were mozilla-firefox-9999.ebuilds, which build what mozilla has named trunk (1.5x).
As to RSS or sth like this, we don't have the means to do it, as we don't host the ebuilds, the hosting is kindly provided from zyne and bbe. Look in the next thread about more information https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-401525-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-.html for more information, as wuno has some updates to the ebuilds. On the other hand, the standard ebuilds aka official 1.5-series releases are partly in the official portage.
As to the cvs-thunderbird - I don't see any problem to be made, I'll talk to wuno to see when we could post such build, but there are some problems to be resolved before this happens.

FYI: The Firefox 1.1 version is no longer in the tar.gz'ed ebuild, so attempting to emerge firefox results in a security violation termination message about the digest.

There was formerly a version of the patch for 1.0.x, therefore embed-typeaheadfind.patch is in your distdir (probably /usr/portage/distfiles). The version of the patch for 1.0.x is incompatible with 1.5rcx (and now not needed anymore for 1.0.7-r3 as its now contained in the patch-collection).
Try if this works: Delete the patch from your distdir, emerge sync again and try to emerge mozilla-firefox-1.5_rc3 again. Then the correct version of the patch should be pulled.

Thanks it worked for this :-)

But now I have a new problem :

FYI: The Firefox 1.1 version is no longer in the tar.gz'ed ebuild, so attempting to emerge firefox results in a security violation termination message about the digest.
Thanks for the info, a new emerge digest of the ebuild you want to use, will do in this case. However, I removed the links for downloading the ebuilds from the older forum threads, as we are working close together with Anarchy to get an optimal ebuild for firefox-1.5 in portage. Thus there is no need for additional ebuilds (which of course had some confusing designations). So please try the ebuild from portage as of now, thanks.

Anyone else experiencing problems with firefox 1.5-rc3 and gnome USE flag enabled? firefox crashes a lot here, every time I want to install an extension or download a file. If I compile firefox without the gnome use flag, the bug goes away.

@wuno :

Thanx, firefox 1.5 compiled and works now.

I compiled it with

USE="-gnome mozpango mozsvg" emerge -av mozilla-firefox
