I am unable to drop to single user mode from my Gnome desktop session. I am issuing the following command from a gnome terminal window:
The machine goes down and then freezes with a blank screen.
I attach the output from my messages file:
Code: |
Nov 3 18:05:00 lintower init: Switching to runlevel: 1
Nov 3 18:05:02 lintower hald[7890]: Timed out waiting for hotplug event 1052. Rebasing to 1054
Nov 3 18:05:04 lintower nmbd[8091]: [2005/11/03 18:05:04, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:terminate(56)
Nov 3 18:05:04 lintower nmbd[8091]: Got SIGTERM: going down...
Nov 3 18:05:04 lintower syslog-ng[4859]: syslog-ng version 1.6.8 going down |
After this point there are no relevant messages. All subsequent messages are from the reinitilisation after I press the reset button on my machine.
Is there anything that could be causing this situation, or is there a way I can find out more diagnostic information?
I should add that I have the following configuration:
Kernel version - 2.6.12-gentoo-r10
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Nvidia Geforce 4MX |
