I'll looking to optimize my partitioning on my Gentoo Laptop https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=95994&highlight=zd7000.
Currently I have this (in that order):
Code: |
/boot reiserfs 100MB
swap swap 1GB
/ reiserfs -what ever is left-
|
As you can see it very "flat" and simple.
I use Vmware with two virtual machines (win2k, and winnt4) so that take a huge amount of space (~10 GB). I have heard that if you split up our partitons (ie. /var, /home, /usr/portage, etc..) you can decrease seek time on our hard drive and make if more fault tolerant. Is this true? If so, what are you recommendations?
Thanks,

I have the swap partition at the beginning of the harddisk since that is the fastest part. Next I have a partition for /var/tmp/portage where portage stores the tempory files when it compiles packages. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. I'd suggest having a separate partition for /home. It won't boost your performance, but it's really nice to be able to keep your files and settings should you decide to reinstall. |
