|

Hi all, Just a couple days ago I updated everything, and for some reason sound stopped working afterwards! I checked everything out, and then I found in xmms that it was using oss instead of alsa (or somethign instead of alsa...)
Anyways, I sitll don't have sound in any other programs... how do I fix this?
I also get this error...
"open /dev/[sound]dsp: No such file or directory"
?? I don't know what any of that means... _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!

Yes I do. Currently sound works fine in XMMS, but none of my other programs are setup to use alsa! So I don't have sound... and I have NO CLUE how to change the standard...
anyways, simply, yes, its kernel based alsa _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!

Uhm, when I press alt ctrl f1, and go to the terminal of the X display.. I noticed that error saying no /dev/dsp... I looked in /dev/sound, and there is no dsp there either... shouldn't there be a DSP? _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!

same here.
no /dev/dsp, no /dev/sound. though /dev/snd does exist
the only way I can get sound is mpd + gmpc. strange enough _________________ fbpanel |

seems you are 'missing' ALSA's OSS emulation
Code: | CONFIG_SND_OSSEMUL=y
CONFIG_SND_MIXER_OSS=y
CONFIG_SND_PCM_OSS=y
CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER_OSS=y |
or maybe you have a buggy udev version and the devices just don't get created? _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

gah, I'm still trying to get sound to no avail... except for programs where you can explicity define what your using for sound (such as xmms--oss/alsa/etc) _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!
