i was wondering if i could lock a user in his home directory
if it's possible...how does this work?

you would have to setup a chroot jail for the user. I've never done this myself, but I know there are a couple tools out there that help you do it. there's some help here

A convenient way to do this is app-shells/rssh
EDIT: to put it clear, rssh works great for scp/sftp access, but isn't meant as a chroot replacement when you want to provide full shell access.

if you want to allow only file transfert you can also try scponly. |
