Tools->Options->Memory
Graphics cache
If you have the RAM increase
'Use for Openoffice.org' to 50MB
Reduce
'Memory per object' from 4.9MB to 2.0MB

This should result in faster opening and lower latency.

Interesting (50MB/2MB). I'd read, and implemented, 64MB/8MB, which also improved performance greatly, along with disabling Java. I'll have to try this method, and see which is better.

EDIT: 50/2 does seem faster. (ver 1.1.5)

I'll try to write an ebuild for this as soon as I do some tests with this.

Kadu, are you sure it's frozen -- I have to wait a couple of minutes
for OO to come back if I open the java options dialogue ... but it
does come back after a while and then I can disable java

Erm. According to Caolan McNamara, that doesn't actually work... :|

It opens quickly enough for me anyway. Perhaps you could tell it to use OpenGL and disable Java? That seems to help some (thought it may very well be simply psychological, as I've never hard-timed it).

Have a look at the ebuild attached to bug 109016.
