Dear Forum Members and Guests,
Would someone be able to assist us with a "catch-22" situation, please.......
This is the problem:
We successfuly download, and burnt to a cdrom the Gentoo 2000.0 (not 2000.1) iso for ppc/ppc64 distro.
We successfully get to the final part of the install (without any prior errors),,,,
Typing in (at command prompt) ........ emerge yaboot-static
The normal emerge text flys up the screen and finally comes to an abrupt halt with something of the order
of the following:
Unable to download ...... (some form of ) foobar utility(s) also stating that no network connection was available
and or found and or configured and that it had failed this text was right under the list of what had been emerged
to that point in time.
About the above point it is "absolutely correct" this was a Stage 3 (Three) install ....
without any Network(ed) Internet Connection possible.
Seems as if 1.) There was a possibility that it detected a stale or "non existant" foobar utility(s)
file or files.
or 2.) Somewhere back along the track an unknown config or script file's contents had it believe
it could upgrade via a network.
Unfortunately, post that error yarbootconfig / yaboot are "not" available.
You then are left with an unbootable Gentoo System !
Unfortunately this was well over 4 (four) weeks ago and we could see no way around the problem
at the time !
Later the Gentoo distro partitions were reformatted and further non Gentoo distro installs were trialed.
Sorry i can't be more spacific abot the error.
Is there some sort of "OVERRIDE" to force emerge "NOT" to look at updateing/upgrading anything
during install and use what it has available till we get to our desktop and get ppp on the go ?????
We would like to retry the 2000.0 Universal install again "if" someone can provide a workaround.
Cheers and Kind Regards to All
tom and anna.

Hi Forum Members and Guests,
Re: Stage3 of Gentoo 2000.0 Universal for PPC/PPC64bit install from CDRom - fails on emerge yaboot-static - trys to access the internet via network ......... problem.
Further: This problem is still NOT Solved.
Please see the following prior post for details:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-400194.html
This problem should not have seen the light of day with a Stage 3 install of Gentoo on PPC64 / G5 based PC installs.
It is usless putting out a Stage3 Install for NON Network Workstations if the ruddy thing is going to try to access the
Internet through a "nonexistant network" and fail to complete the distro install !
Put very simply,,,, perhaps,, there is still a line of script,,, somewhere back prior in the install timeline which is incorrect !
And the script is there saying "if" this (file) is older than that (file) access the internet via the users network and bring down the newer file.
That CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN with a networkless install !
cheers
tom and anna. _________________ Regards Tom and Anna.

Do not create unnecessary threads. You already created one for your problem. If you feel that it needs more attention feel free to bump the thread (within reason).
And it is of course possible that the people that do read it simply don't have an answer for you. Nobody is actually required to solve your problem either. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
