I know this is really bad, but what is the easiest way to partition and format. At the moment I have two partitions on my 120g harddrive.

C: has 10gig
D: has 120gig

Windows is on C: and I cant just format c: because it says windows is using files on that drive at it cant format it.

Is there anyway I can just wipe them both clean hands down with no interuptions like that.

So I can set up my windows partition of about 5gig, then so I can use the unallocated space for linux.

thanks.

Are you trying to format from Windows? If you start the Gentoo installer, you get a chance to partition your disk with fdisk. That shouldn't care if Windows is on C: or not. (You'll lose your windows though if you change the size.)

you could get and boot from the knoppix livecd and use parted or qtparted (qt frontend of parted) to do that.they can change the size of a partition, but you might lose information from the partition you are making smaller. are you lucky then all information will be intact and there will be no need to format them
