Right now, I'm installing Gentoo and I missed the Portage Snapshot step. So, i didn't download a portage snapshot. However, when I ran emerge -sync [correct me fi i'm wrong] I didn't get any errors, nothing compalined, and everything was there in the /usr/portage directory.

Could something go wrong with my install? Do I need to go back and fix this? Is Portage installed anyway through the sync?

What can go wrong? Can I place a new Portage snapshot after the install and update Portage that way?

Yes, but I don't know what the yes applies to. Does it apply to portage getting install during or what?

Don't worry,

the Portage Snapshot is completely optional.
You'll get all the ebuild's (what's inside the portage snapshot) when you "emerge sync".
