Right now, I'm installing Gentoo and I missed the Portage Snapshot step. So, i didn't download a portage snapshot. However, when I ran emerge -sync [correct me fi i'm wrong] I didn't get any errors, nothing compalined, and everything was there in the /usr/portage directory.
Could something go wrong with my install? Do I need to go back and fix this? Is Portage installed anyway through the sync? |

What can go wrong? Can I place a new Portage snapshot after the install and update Portage that way? |

Yes, but I don't know what the yes applies to. Does it apply to portage getting install during or what? |

I don't want to start all over. I've been running emerge --emptytree system for the past 2 hrs and I'm almost close to done. I'll see what happnes unless code can clarify his answer. |

Don't worry,
the Portage Snapshot is completely optional.
You'll get all the ebuild's (what's inside the portage snapshot) when you "emerge sync". |
