ArchCK is a patchset based on the CK patchset. ArchCK aims to include a variety of popular features and updates that have not yet made it to the vanilla kernel, without compromising stability. Con Kolivas' CK patchset is the most important part of ArchCK, as it provides the great interactivity and responsiveness improvements.
This release is quite an awesome one, there have been some big improvements in the staircase scheduler as evidenced by the benchmarks here:

Where it completely shats all over the vanilla scheduler.

Oh, there's a new option?
Iphitus, it appears that vesa-tng and reiser4 kernel options have disappeared. Grep'ing /usr/src/linux/.config for DEBUG revealed CONFIG_DEBUG_BUGVERBOSE=y in "Kernel Hacking." I can't disable it from make menuconfig, either  |

Oh, there's a new option?

Vesafb-tng is still there, as is reiser4. Both appear in my menuconfig. The option you mention is not enable in my config, and isnt turned on by default.
Are you sure you've patched with ArchCK?

Yeah the ck4 base uses staircase v13 which makes for a big improvement in interactivity and responsiveness. |

copied .config from my 2.6.11-nitro2; menumake ; compile; boot;
fires up w/o error and I have my R4 .
em nvidia-kernel && em nvidia-glx : looks good.
[ebuild R ] media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4
[ebuild R ] media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r6
startx ... awwww 
anything silly I am forgetting?

No clue, sorry, I have zero experience with nvidia. I do know that people have used nvidia with this, so theres no changes in the patchset that should effect it. I suggest you take a look at the DRM and graphics options within the kernel and make sure that the appropriate options are set for nvidia to operate.

Looks like its time to update nvidia and rebuild
# echo media-video/nvidia-glx ~x86 >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# echo media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86 >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# emerge nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel

I'm not sure, but I think the new kernels dont work with older nvidia (the latest is 7676-r2)
And, before the update - make sure that nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx are for sure rebuilt
And is the X error with nvidia ?:-p

iphitus, thanks for this patchset again, it is proven stable, reliable, and fast | looks like archck4 is going on the new livecd over nitro (nitro gave a kernel panic about the CPU, thou it was an experimental release) So I presume archck will be more stable, more up-to-date, and it gets the job done for me on my system.

After my initial positive reaction to this kernel I decided to put it throught the paces. Benchmarks are one thing, but I prefer to use day to day situations....
First I fired up beep-media-player and enabled the libvisual plugin and opened the window to the size of my full screen (1856x1392). That chewed a BIG chunk of my cpu up and a decent bit of ram. The animation on the visualization plugin was a bit slower than in the small window (as could be expected), but it was very smooth and quite visually appealing. Then I decided to throw in resource hog Lime Wire. The visualization plugin studdered a little bit during the loading of limewire but went right back to smooth once it was up and running. Then I opened up firefox (32-bit) and began browsing, pages loaded fairly fast even with limewire chewing up memory and internet bandwith. Then I added an emerge sync. Processes were still very responsive and Firefox even loaded pages surprisingly fast under the circumstances. Once the emerge sync finished I started a compile. During a few beginning moments of the compile the bmp-libvisual plugin studdered a bit, but went back to pretty smooth. Programs loaded quickly and were very responsive even under the heaviest of loads. Even under those circumstances my ram was topped out(1GB:2x512 dual channel), but my swap was barely touched. Even Firefox pages loaded quickly with the majority of bandwith, cpu, and memory used up. Conclusion: My computer is extremely responsive, regardless of the load placed on its hardware. Everything works and is completely stable so far. Best kernel ever, it has exceeded all my expectations  |

Awesome. Thank Con for the amazing responsiveness and interactivity, it's his Staircase scheduler which does all the work.

Just updated to CK5, which only contains a change to keep up to date with vanilla, 2.6.14.2
Also in this release is Realtime-lsm and layer7.
I included layer7 in archck4, but neglected to mention it. |

Thanks that did it , now running archck4
~x86 gave me 1.0.7676-r1
I thought is may have been an issue like that but I thought is best to ask before trying ad hoc. I'd also seem to neg. reports on more recent nv stuff so I was a bit reluctant if not needed.
See how it looks and feels over the next few days.
Everything is horribly slow to load , but it was already so I will have to dig into that elsewhere. (Gentoo takes fully 30s just to load opera , idem for emerge <package> )
Gentoo seems to get bogged down from time to time , never understood why. Often seen others witnessing the same thing but never seen a better solution that a clean install. 
Anyway, glad to be up on arch, I was very keen to see what CK4 new schedulere was worth , sounds promising.

Wow this is probably the best performance I've had with a linux kernel to date. Everything is very responsive, stable and smooth. Good job!
Is there a homepage for that archck livecd? Also any idea if it has reiser4 and/or reiser4 tools on it?
Any idea if this kernel will ever get added into portage? Or maybe a +bleeding_edge use flag in the regular ck-sources ebuild?

I think archck-sources should remain independant of ck-sources so that Con won't be smothered by support requests. Reiser4 issues should be directed elsewhere. |

ArchCK5 plays fine with udev, and includes no patches that would cause you to lose access to your CD drive. Chances are the PEBKAC. You probably missed a driver in your configuration or something.
Sorry for the lack of updates last few weeks, I've had exams so havnt had enough time to work on archck. Expect a new one in the next few days. |

I found my problem but there isn't a known fix...
I'm on an inspiron 9300.
The hard drive is plain sata, so I enabled regular SCSI Sata support.
The dvd+-rw is IDE bridged sata, so adding libata.atapi_enabled to the kernel, and having IDE Sata enabled should work (/dev/sr0) but it doesn't.
When it did, there was an issue with mounting, and an issue with cdparanoia saying every audio disc may have been a data disc.
I am looking for a good kernel config for 2.6.14.
Sorry for blaming your patchset, its just that /dev/hdc was shown in nitro's, though I realize that was a mistake because my dvdrw should be /dev/sr0 and not /dev/hdc (its so much slower with /dev/hdc).
