Flags:Medium Devsel, IRQ

Problem: I think I might have a modem that is not supported with "Gentoo". I have looked around and it looked very sceptical whether or not certain drivers could be used in place of the US Robotics Modem.

My question is there a driver I could use in place of the "US Robotics Internal Win Modem (Models 2975, 3528) or is there actually a driver available for this specific type of modem? Can you present documentation please on how I would go about setting this up.

Thanks in advance for help...

I'n not familiar with that particular winmodem, but I have set up a couple winmodems back in the day. It all depends on what chipset your modem uses as to whether it will work under Linux or not. Maybe someone else has experience with that particular one??

Its fairly easy, in most cases, to determine the chipset. From there you can find out if someone has made a driver for it (it might even exist in portage!). Use the scanModem utility to figure out exactly what chipset your modem uses. There a link and some good installation advice here: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/

In some cases no Linux support exists at all. In that case it's usually easier to buy a new modem (like an external one, which can be had fairly cheap in most places).
