hi,
i have installed gentoo & mplayer on the following plattform:
intel p3 550 mhz
asus p3b
msi gf2 64Mb passiv cooled
when i play a dvd, vcd or divx movie it looks after 5 to 40 seconds.
i have tried with nv and nvidia drivers and several kernel options but it does not change anything.
i tried to solve the problem the last 2 days but it cannot solve it.
i even tried to install sine but it stops with an compiling error.
please help... |

Have you tried switching the sound and video drivers? You can switch them by middle clicking in mplayer and going to preferences. _________________ Excellent.. |

hi,
i tried it without soundcard and i tried sdl and x11 and xv as ouput but everything ends in an lockup. I tried to play a divx with aviplay an it works very well even in fullscreen but with mplayer the same movie locksup after 5 seconds. |

How about cflags? Do you use fairly aggressive flags? If you still can't find any solution, you could try using avifile for avi's, ogle for dvd's, etc.. not as convenient but it's better than no working player. _________________ Excellent.. |

Have you tried increasing the verbosity (-v 3)?. Also I had several probs with the caching. Starting mplayer with -nocache did help. |

@Delphiki i use the standard gantoo flags but it also didn't work with LRS Linux. So I think it is another problem... I need mplayer because i use this maschine as a standalone freevo player ... now i can only play mp3's because this works without crashing... but i hope i can solve the problem with your help.
@mjoswig i check this after recompiling it myself. |

hi,
i have no luck.
i tried everything but nothing happens.
after some seconds of playing movies the hole system locks up but playing mp3s with mplayer works ?!
i think it is a xfree issue but not a driver problem because it locks up with nv and nvidia driver. i trie to install an older version of xfree if this does not help i try a newer one... maybe 4.3.0 |

do you have mtrr and rtc in your kernel?
what about the cache option for mplayer?
mtrr is good for performance, rtc good for dvd and many other things, cache for slow media |
