|
|
My printer works nicely ( CUPS ) with all my Gentoo applications but one ( Gimp ) , is detected by KDE print manager.
The problem with gimp is that when creating a file with gimp, then right-clicking on the drawing I can see the general menu. If I select the 1st menu item ( File ) there is no Print submenu.
While doing the same with Fedora and Ubuntu ( I quadruple boot ) I can see that File->Print option and can print the drawing created with Gimp.
I "emerge" gimp-print too and to be sure "emerge" foomatic, foomatic-filters, ghostscript, and hpijs ( better safe than sorry )
tia for any suugestion or tip. |

Did you emerge gimp with '+gimpprint' USE flag? |

I don't remember having used the +gimprint flag.
I'm a complete Gentoo newbie and generally go with the default USE flags rather than messing around with some flags I don't understand.
Thanks a lot for the info, I'll reinstall with that flag.
At least that will make me pay more attention to the various flags before installing. |

I tried again, but it still doesn't work.
1) I removed gimp:
emerge --unmerge gimp
2) Viewed the used USE_flags with gimp:
emerge --pretend --verbose gimp
It returned -gimpprint
So I reinstalled with the gimpprint flag:
USE="gimpprint" emerge gimp
Did I miss something ? ( Obviously, yes )
Anyway, thanks trae for you taking some of your time trying to help. |

Hi Biased turkey,
Just to rule out the possibility that you set the USE flag wrong....you have to edit /etc/make.conf and add "gimpprint" to it, for example, my make.conf looks like:
Code: |
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j4"
FEATURES="ccache"
USE="acl bash-completion -kde -qt -arts -gnome -xmms -ipv6 pic gtk2 gtk alsa /
oss dvd dvdr cdr sse sse2 mmx rtc usb nvidia xv xvmc xvid avi mpeg aac /
ogg vorbis mp3 flac quicktime win32codecs ffmpeg a52 lzo network nptl /
svg jpeg gif mailwrapper mozilla matroska dts encode truetype unicode /
spell apache2 cjk gimpprint"
|
Then paste the output of:

Gee, I have plenty of help from the Albertans tonight.
Merci a lot to both of you.
@Maheriano:
I didn't need to emerge gimp-print because , as my original post mentioned gimp-print was installed right after gimp.
@Xaid:
You were right, I edited the /etc/make.conf adding "gimpprint" to it ,emerged gimp and ... voilà.
I can now print with The gimp. |

Hi Biased turkey,
I'm glad you got it working with no problems.
