!!! Security Violation: A file exists that is not in the manifest.

What does that mean? Note that I don't have the internet on my Gentoo box yet, and I had to download the sources from my other computer for it to work. But after I updated the snapshot it gives me this, what does it mean? How do I fix it?

its a security feature of Gentoo/Portage to ensure that what you download isn't tainted.
There is an MD5 checksum file that list all the files you are going to d/l as well as a few other files that describe what goes on before the compiling happens

sounds like you have d/l the file from somewhere that doesnt quite adhere to the version portage is using.

Where did you d/l it from, try d/l it from one of the mirrors listed in yr make.conf (ie take the URL to another PC and goto that address)

Well, it is not even complaining about the files that I have downloaded (sharutil-4.2.1), I think, but this:
>>> emerge (1 of 1) app-arch/sharutils-4.2.1-r11 to /
!!! Security Violation .......................
!!! File: files/digest-sharutils-4.2.1-r10

Notice the different release.

What is digest_blah anyway?

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of Portage does more security checks? Digest verification fails
