I am unable to ping anything except my router. I cannot look up and websites or cannot ping say www.yahoo.com. If i try to ping it just freezes, if i try to emerge something it just hangs on resolving xx..xxx..x or whatever. I am using the netgear fr114p router and i use sbc dsl with a pppoe connection that uses dhcp. The dsl modem is a speedstream 5260. I am in windows at the moment and this is what I got from ipconfig /all
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

my /etc/resolv.conf says nameserver 68.94.156.1
nameserver 68.94.157.1
Windows just connects on boot but cant get gentoo internet to work right, i cant recall what I have in my /etc/conf.d/net or even if thats the problem. But based on that info could anyone give me an example of what my /etc/conf.d/net file should look like. Gentoo finds my ethernet cards with no problem so I dont think its in the kernel config. Thanks |

I think "sbc dsl with a pppoe" needs auth options that windows is passing and gentoo is not look at the man page for dhcpcd and see if seeting the one of the switch in dhcpcd_eth0= line in your /etc/conf.d/net file to your user-ID / password help.
like maybe -h "your_user_name" -I "your_sbc_passwd"
some time is is set in the modem and some time not. |

hmmm tried that and it didnt work, im guessing that my old dsl modem isnt communicating effectively with my router. With windows I just put all of my pppoe info in http:192.168.0.1 and it worked. Hmmm dunno what the prob is.. |

Ok when you boot in to windows dose it give you a loging {to the router the http:// 192.168.0.1} so you can enter your info or did you do that as a one time thing and now it just boot with live internet?
you mite look on the sbc.news-groups "sbcglobal.help.tech.linux" and see if there is some thing in there about the p3oe settup also. |

Well in order to get windows internet to work I had to go to http://192.168.0.1. From there it was a conncetion wizard, asked me if my connection was pppoe etc and my login info such as 1234@sbcglobal.net and my pass and then i saved it and now it just boots up with internet. |
