1) so it's customized
2) b/c mandrake already does a damn good job of being mandrake
3) Yea it's a few days, especially for your 1st installation. it's worth it. |

One of the big problems i'm see is that I have 9 other computers to install this on after i no if i like it!!!!
I would like to make a system install off my hard drive after building this to my liking. then install on the other systems then do a make xconfig to set them up, can this be done? using my CD/RW or DVD/RW |

You wouldnt want to. Main reason people use gentoo so that you can have binaries built to your liking for your exact hardware. I'm sure all nine computers of yours arent the same.
and
Why would we want to have it install like mandrake, that would suck!! How could we customize or learn anything? |

All I want is the OS to do what I want like:
1. do updates ( kde desk top) with out a lot of work
2. run only what I need not all this extra crap...keep it clean most of the OS out there after installing the menu bar is full of things I do not need! (how many terminal option do you need)
3. I would like to see drag and burn to the cd's and keep it open not closing the cd after burning...A few things like microsoft has... (roxio) |

to answer your questions.
1) gentoo is easy to update
2) gentoo doesnt have a lot of exta crap by default. (but you can add it later)
3) you can do this in linux, just dont fixate your cdr disk, when you burn it.
If your installation is smaller than 700mb compressed, you could install gentoo on to one computer. copy it to a cdr. and then just copy the installation to the other computers. (assuming you use -mcpu flag that is compatible with all 9 of your computers). this way you wont have to go through the entire proccess 9 times. (or if its bigger than 700mb you could copy it through your network, if you have one.)
or you could hire a nerd to do it for you. |

If the installation is >700mb, just copy it over the network. _________________ Aim:gsfgf0 |
