ok i'm going to be reformatting, and i've got some data i'm trying to backup (5GB) the only drive that i've got that i can use is a 20GB Vfat partition with 6GB free, now the thing is vfat has a file size limit of 2gb so i can't tar it all up like i was going to, is there anyway to make tar split the tarball into several .tar files automatically? or another way to back this up? |

i had some problems splitting tar files some time ago.
what about rar? it has good compression ratio and you
can split files however you want _________________ mush keeps the dream alive |

it's not available in the liveCD, but you could just
download the binary and execute it from the liveCD _________________ mush keeps the dream alive |

hmm didn't have much luck, rar doesnt seem to like symlinks much, my homedir is littered with them, and it kinda segfaults. maybe i'll see if i can get some file splitting software that i can pipe data into and then maybe i can pipe a tar into it. |

the thing is that requires a functional linux setup, no can do i need to reformat to get that far right now. and what i mostly need is some kind of file splitter, i found a perl script a minute ago to do this and all you have to do is cat the files together afterwards. i'll mess with it a bit later. |
