Having had problems with postgres segfaulting, I removed it and re-installed with emerge -e. I then created a new data directory, knowing that I could re-create my database using the stored data and sql commands to create views that I have kept. However, when I run initdb I get:

Code:

The program
    /usr/bin/postgres
needed by initdb does not belong to PostgreSQL version 7.4.9, or
there may be a configuration problem.

According to equery, /usr/bin/postgres does belong to the version of PostgreSQL mentioned, which leaves only a configuration problem. But what could it be?

The data directory is 700 postgres:postgres as it has always been, so I don't think it's that.
