Upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6 kernel

Hi all!

I've got a few x86 2.4 kernel based Gentoo boxes which I'm thinking of upgrading to 2.6. I noticed a while back while performing portage updates that it mentioned I had the option of upgrading to a 2.6 kernel, however dismissed it at the time.

I'm just wondering now whether A, is it more difficult to perform than an upgrade from a 2.4 kernel to a more recent 2.4 kernel, and B are there any special steps or precautions I should take before doing the upgrade?
