I have a IBM X300 which has the VIA chipset. I enabled VIA support agppart and IDE chipset, but when I restart the server I get

agppart: Detected VIA Apollo Pro 133 detected

and it will not go further. I am not sure if this is the problem but any help would be appreciated.

I have an old server which I want to reuse. I previously had Windows installed. It was working for 4 years. Now I want to use it as a gateway. After I installed Gentoo 2.6.14-r2 for the first time. I reboot and this is when I see the
agppart: VIA Apollo Pro 133 chipset detected message.

I then bootup from 2005.1 CD, mount the drives, proc and make changes to the kernel. Things I tried,

1. Switching OFF APCI for uniprocessor,
2. adding irg=routeirq

and I reboot after each change, but still the server hangs during startup.

After many hours rebuilding the X300, the problem still remains. Then I put in a Fedora CD and the same thing happens but more info this time:

agppart: Detected VIA Apollo Pro 133 Chipset
agppart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory : 203M

I a have 256 MB in this server and thought it is enough, but it may be. What is the minimum memory required to install Gentoo.

It compiled the agpgart as a module and not in the kernel. xSeries X300 booted without any problem.
