AFter a lot of searching, I have finally found a note-taking app that can run on both Windows and Linux.

Problem is, the gentoo-portage version is the old one (version 7) that has no security.

What I need is an app that keeps a LOT of notes on many topics AND holds the passwords of my clients securely. Freemind is perfect. Oh, and it has to be stored on a USB key - it's a portability issue.

Does anyone know if Freemind 8 will be made available on portage?

Or - does anyone know of an alternative? A wikki would be perfect - but I'm not always online when I need a password, or the notes on HOW to get online.

TuxCards is ideal - but not for Windows and the newer version is not available on Cygwin. Freemind is great - but version 8 with security is not available on portage.

What is a boy to do?

For note-taking, moin is simple & cross-platform, and my choice :)

Right. It's hard-masked. I have it now, thanks.

Is there a way to know WHY it is hardmasked? Is my system now at risk?

You can check the changelog and author's website.

In Gentoo, software can't be marked "stable" unless it has gone 30 days without a "serious" bug report, AFAIK. It has to be reasonably decent to even get into portage :)

I have trouble emerging freemind.
Code:

>>> Unpacking freemind-src-0_8_0.zip to /var/tmp/portage/freemind-0.8.0/work
>>> Source unpacked.
Error: could not find libjava.so
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.

I've got the following java enviorments
Code:

dev-java/sun-jdk (1.4.2.10-r2)
dev-java/sun-jre-bin (1.5.0.06-r2)

joshua freemind # java-config -L
[sun-jdk-1.4.2.10] "Sun JDK 1.4.2.10" (/etc/env.d/java/20sun-jdk-1.4.2.10) *
[blackdown-jre-1.4.2.03] "Blackdown JRE 1.4.2.03" (/etc/env.d/java/20blackdown-jre-1.4.2.03)
[sun-jre-bin-1.4.2.09] "Sun JRE 1.4.2.09" (/etc/env.d/java/20sun-jre-bin-1.4.2.09)
[sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06] "Sun JRE 1.5.0.06" (/etc/env.d/java/20sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06)
[blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.03] "Blackdown JDK 1.4.2.03" (/etc/env.d/java/20blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.03)

Other java-apps seems to be working quite nice. I've tried freemind-0.8.0 and freemind-0.7.1-r1 both gives the same error, so I guess this has something to do with my java enviroment.. any suggestions?
