Hi there

This is a strange problem:

I'm on a Server with strictly configured shorewall, my own forewarding dns via bind, http proxies via squid.
The firewall is configured to only let pass requests from the server itself to the net.

"ping distfiles.gentoo.org" works fine
"lynx http://distfiles.gentoo.org" works fine
"emerge sync" works fine

but

wget hangs when resolving hostnames

And if I provide the same download with an ip-adress it works!

Zeroing my packet counts and looking at the firewall, it seems that wget does not even send any packets.
Not a single packet gets dropped.
But looking at wget with ldd gets the same libraries lynx uses, too, but with lynx working.

Any Clues anybody?

bye
Ulf

you should try wget with your firewall disabled, that way we can atleast rule out it's not your firewall.
Then you could try to emerge a different version of wget and see if that has the same problem.

Solution: I downgraded to wget-1.9.1-r5 and it works again
Seems that wget-1.10.2 does not run properly for me.

bye
