|
|
I just bought a new nic, the d-link DFE-530TX+, because i couldn't get my network working under an older isa nic. During the first part of installation, I couldn't find/load the right drivers to use on the cd, and i've tried a bunch of different ones, like 8139cp, which is like the one i use when i install the card on xp. I'm not sure which module to use, or if i should download a new one(and somehow access a hd or floppy during the install).
Any help would be great.

Not trying to be a jerk, but if you follow the instllation guide all should work fine when done. Including networking.
Good luck. _________________ Hope this helps!

Make sure you're using the via-rhine network drivers *not* the rtl8139 network drivers as indicated by the link in gilesjuk's post.
Dlink gives instructions at http://www.dlink.co.uk/products/dfe-530tx/dfe530tx%20linux.htm _________________ I work for fun. But only as a means to an end. |

I'm having a problem accessing my floppy drive. When I try to mount it:
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
it says that fd0 doesn't exist, but i found fd in the /dev/ directory, and i tried to mount that and still gives me an error:
fd is not a block device
What gives? |

Not sure what the prob is with your floppy, but we've documented the 530 TX+ problems -- if you're installing from the 1.4_rc2 cd, it's evidently missing the proper drivers. Recommended fix: download rc3 and install from it.
If you're having boot problems (i.e. DHCP and stuff), that's right up my alley. It seems that in post 2.4.19 kernels, either APIC or ACPI interfere with proper functionality of the 8139too module (the proper driver for your card). I don't know which, as I've been too lazy/not taken time to figure out exactly which. The easiest way (in my thinking) to fix this kind of problem is to add the kernel parameter "pci=noacpi" to either your grub "kernel" line or as a LILO option.
If neither of those solutions address your issue, blame it on my using Links right now; I didn't read too deeply into the prior posts. |

DFE-530TX+ uses the 8139too module
DFE-530TX uses the via-rhine. |
