I followed the gentoo desktop reference document to install X and nvidia driver on my machine but when it come to test for nvidia driver performance, i can't find glxgears on my computer.
I did try
find / glxgears
and after searching awhile, it says it cant find glxgears.
Does anyone know which package glxgears is in?

glxgears is in /usr/bin/glxgears

It is provided by xorg-x11 but you need to have the opengl USE flag set.

I get around 2000 and it is enough to play games like enemy territory, neverwinter nights and many others.
edit: btw this is no real benchmark. Glxgears score depends on many factors resolution and colour depth it is really easy to fake it( minize window, swich to another virtual desktop).
As far as i know at the moment the best 3d benchmark is one from ut2003/2004(full version or demo).

GLXGEARS...IS...NOT...A...BENCHMARK!

glxgears performance has extremely little with whether or not a game will be playable.

An example:
On one of my machines glxgears score is ~400fps with software rendering.
On the same machine, using a TNT2 with nvidia's drivers, I get ~120fps
Quake3 is playable with hw rendering, it's a slideshow with software rendering..

Seriously, don't think glxgears scores have any relation to real life applications, because they don't.

What the name of the 3d benchmark? Is it 3dmark or futuremark? If yes then they are only available on WINDOWS

I don't get you. I didn't mention anything about 3dmark. There is a benchmark in ut2003/ut2004, ut2003/ut2004 demo.

You need to get it from glx-utils, and an ebuild can be put in your overlay to install it.

http://dev.gentoo.org/~spyderous/xorg-x11/migrating_to_modular_x_howto.txt

There's a section in the howto about how to install it.
