lpr only works with .pdf

I recently installed my new Canon Pixma IP3000 (which I purchased only to find out that linux support is abismal for the damn thing), and I got it working reasonably well. The only thing that bothers me is that I can only print .pdf files with lpr, and .ps files are just eaten without reaction by the printer. WTF?

Exact same problem here. Pdf's work perfectly, ps converted to pdf's also, but ps or anything else does not work at all. No errors, and the printers don't move a muscle.
