Hello!

I've got here a fresh installed Gentoo system and recently emerged Skype. Unfortunately it does not start. It always says:

$ skype
Running artsd found
Starting artsd wrapped skype
==========================================
Running wrapped Skype failed, trying not-wrapped mode...
==========================================

When I do a start as root:

skype
No installed artsshell or esd found
Assuming you're running no sound daemon
Starting skype without a sound wrapper
==========================================
Running wrapped Skype failed, trying not-wrapped mode...
==========================================

I am using KDE 3.5 RC1 and artsshell is there. Sound works normally with all apps.

Any clue what the problem is?

try running it as PATH=$PATH+":/usr/kde/3.5/bin" skype. The root account doesn't by default put the kde bin directory in your path of executables. Also see if your arts is using artswrappersuid equery u arts (<--that needs gentoolkit installed)

No - wasn't that.

By accident I've found out where the problem is: You have to emerge libstdc++-v3 and then it works. Why ever the emerged skype does not tell this.
