I just emerged quake2-icculus and quake2-data, and everything works fine except for audio. Using quake2 or quake2-qmax, I just get fast loud clicks. With sdlquake2 and sqlquake2-qmax, the audio stutters/echoes every second. I notice that in the console, it says it initialized audio at 22050, so I changed the value in ~/.quake2/baseq2/config.cfg from "22" to "44", and now consol,e shows 44100, but I still get the stuttering/echoes. Any idea on how to fix this? |

i get stutering/ echoes if i have another program using audio in the background while i try to play sdlquake2-qmax but another thing to check for is to make sure ur runing sdlquake2-qmax in sdl mode, it defaults to opengl which still uses slightly jankey sound |

How would OpenGL affect the sound? OpenGL is a video interface... |

yes but if i'm figuring correctly the whole point of sdl is that it combinely handles video and audio in somewhat of a directx fasion instead of having to use opengl and alsay, you just use sdl... jebus, just try it and post back if it works
EDIT: i think sdl does use alsa and opengl, but it already has it set up for the progrmer to work well with really good values for everysystem... less for the engine to screw up by bieng old |

I've tried all the video modes, and, (as I expected ) none of them helped the audio output in the least. Tried turning CD audio off, tried max compatiblity and max performance, tried high/low quality, etc. Do any other Q2 ports exist? QuakeForge/Quake2Forge seem to have been dead for at least a year, now. |

set sndchannels "2"
set sndbits "16"
set s_primary "1"
set s_mixahead "0.2"
set s_loadas8bit "0"
set s_khz "44"
set s_volume "0.4"
That's the full range of sound options in config file. 11 22 44 are only possible values in s_khz, otherwise it defaults to 11025. Can't do 48000. |
