Hi,

I'm back with another wireless-question concerning WPA-encryption: the following configuration-file is used (/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf):

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
network={
ssid="USR5450"
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="my_scret_pass"
priority=99
}

Content of /etc/conf.d/net:

modules=( "wpa_supplicant" )
wpa_supplicant_eth1="-Dipw"
wpa_timeout_eth1=60

And the following modules loaded:

Module Size Used by
ieee80211_crypt_wep 6340 0
ieee80211_crypt_tkip 11716 0
ipw2200 183816 0
ieee80211 53508 1 ipw2200
ieee80211_crypt 7624 3 ieee80211_crypt_wep,ieee80211_crypt_tkip,ieee80211
firmware_class 11648 1 ipw2200

But everytime when I try to start the network-iface + wpa_supplicant I get the following error-messages:

ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Operation not supported
ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Operation not supported
Failed to set encryption.

Until now, I've found only one "solution": CONFIG_DRIVER_WEXT=y must be set in the .config file but I didn't find that option. I'm currently using
kernel 2.6.13-gentoo-r5. All cryptographic libraries are compiled in.

Any suggestions or help?

Thx!

Use -Dwext instead of -Dipw when running wpa_supplicant.

I would have guessed that you are using an unstable version of wpa_supplicant from your output. Try a different one or go back to 0.3.9-r1

I am having the same problem. Why doesn't the ipw driver work with wpa_supplicant? So, I switched to wext driver. Now, it doesn't see my WAP. It started it in foregroujnd and here is what I get:
Code:

00:0c:e5:48:b2:aa is my WAP. I ran iwlist to see what it should show and it picks up that there is a wpa_ie being sent out:

What gives?
Code:

root@qa4437-11 /etc/init.d #  cat /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
# The below line not be changed otherwise we refuse to work
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

# Ensure that only root can read the WPA configuration

The ipw driver works with wpa_supplicant, it's that new versions use a standard interface (wext) for all drivers. BTW. don't add questions to a thread marked as solved, probably no one will read it (I'm still watching it becaause I forgot to unsuscribe). Start a new post instead. And no, I can't help you with your problem.
