Better start here - doco is provided for a reason. Start with the Handbook - I read it all before I started; you might do well to do likewise.
Do not even contemplate the "quick install guide" - you need the detail of the full handbook. Despite it's name, the "2005.1 handbook" should also be avoided, as it will also only confuse things - you will need a network based install.

Good luck - it ain't as hard as some make out.

The Gentoo Minimal disc's purpose is to have a self-contained environment from which to build your Gentoo system, provided you have a compatible network setup to download the packages as you go, all on a business-card sized CD.

Personally, I don't waste CD space with any Gentoo CD; I just use Knoppix. This way, I have full use of my computer while the compile is proceeding, and Knoppix has all the necessary tools to compile the stage 1 system. *grin* Especially now that Knoppix has the DVD version.
