Okay, I can't get X to start or configure. X -configure, xorgcfg, and startx (using ATI's xorg.conf file) all die the same way--on the loading of the first module it finds.

This is the end of the screen output from startx

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.X.Org
for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.8.log" for additional information.

I'm trying to run:
- X.Org 6.8.2
- Fluxbox
- ati-drivers installed for my ATI Radeon 9800XT with AGP
- xorg.conf was generated with fglrxconfig
- AMD 64-bit (using 64-bit Gentoo)

The xorgcfg and X -configure commands give the following logfile:

The startx command gives a similar file, except it's in "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", and it manages to grab stuff from the config file (Server Layout, FontPath, RgbPath, etc) before dying on loading of the bitmap module. I'm sure that it'd crash no matter what module it would try to load, though. I don't know how to disable the X modules, but crashing on the first one it tries isn't very nice.

Full logfiles can be found here:
* startx
* xorgconf

Post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and the result of lsmod.

Take a look at this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-381673-highlight-relocation+xorg.html

The bad thing is, I have the same problem again and can't resolve it...

Are you running the amd64 version of Gentoo? What version of GCC are you running? Do you have the hardened USE flag enabled? What video card do you have?

Oh, and I'll post my lsmod and xorg.conf file (generated by ATI) when I have a free moment to do it.
