As of late, rhythmbox has been totally off the chain. Development is moving at a quick pace, and new features are constantly being added while old ones continue to get polish. I just added an ebuild for rhythmbox-0.9.2 to the portage tree and want people to test it and file bugs.
New features include:
Daap sharing
MDNS support via howl/avahi
ipod playlist support
podcast support
cd burning
audio cd playing with musicbrainz support
audoiscrobbler/last.fm support
Tagging support(some formats)
Probably some other tight features
Make sure to check what useflags are supported before merging. I know having lots of use flags can suck, so make sure to set them right the first time. Feel free to ask any questions here, or to the friendly people in #rhythmbox on gimpnet. |

I'll try that, I'm getting sick of amarok's general instability, and the lack of m4a support.... _________________ The Geek formerly known as -Freestyling-

If this is the same ebuild that was in bugzilla last week I can tell you DAAP works perfectly with Itunes using howl. I can't believe how easy it was.
EDIT: ohh wait that was 9.1 I'm using. I'll have to give it a try but I no longer have a mac available. |

For fun I tried compiling in amd64 (just keyworded to ~x86). Aside from a dumb mistake of running the 0.9.2 while 0.9.1 was already running (I had made an overlay) and it so far seems to work pretty well....
If I find any problems I'll post e'm here.

I just tried emerging rhythmbox 0.9.2 and got an odd error. It gave me an "ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY" then acess_wr: /var/lib/cache/gstreamer-0.8 and acess_wr: /root/.gstreamer-0.8. I have no idea why this is happening. Any ideas? |

Spoke too soon. Although I am able to view DAAP shares (itunes) no problem, it doesn't seem to want to share them. And when I try to change sharing preferences (ie, recheck the box), i get a crash.
I have experienced at least one crash/hang while playing music. Which resulted in my Library not being saved completely (I had just imported a new list of music...)

it's a great player the only thing i wish it had was the winamp style media libaray in which you tell it to look in a directory and it automaticly adds new files into the database if it finds them and automaticly deletes files from the database when it does not find them. |

Same here. It's all in big red letters too!
Code: |
--------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY ---------------------------
LOG FILE = "/var/log/sandbox/sandbox-media-sound_-_rhythmbox-0.9.2-8050.log"
access_wr: /var/lib/cache/gstreamer-0.8
access_wr: /root/.gstreamer-0.8
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
Here's the tail end of that log file...
Code: | access_wr: /var/lib/cache/gstreamer-0.8
access_wr: /root/.gstreamer-0.8
|
uh... nothing new.
So do I need to update gstreamer? I'm running a (mostly) stable x86 here. _________________ [Insert favorite Ghandi quote here] |

I tried updating gstreamer from .8.8 to .8.10 then tried it again and I had the same problem. So I don't think that's the problem. |

Have you tried updating to gstreamer 0.8.11? I am using that (through ~x86) and had no problems emerging rhythmbox. |

Nope... even going to 0.8.11 still gave me the same problem. |

I'm having problems with some of the radio stations. Digitally Imported trance refuses to play (my favorite station). If I open the properties for that station it says near the bottom "Unknown playback error". DI Classic Techno and Progressive play fine. but Deep House and the regular Trance stations wont. All of the others do play. Anybody else have this experience?
edit: I reverted back to 0.8.8 and the station in question works again. I'm gonna try with the playlists and such from the new version to see if it still works.
edit2: It's definately a problem with the new rhythmbox. The old version works with the new rhythmdb.xml in ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox. |

I have been trying to no avail to emerge 0.9.2 for the last couple days. I initially was getting an error about something looking for libhal.so.0. So, I symlinked /usr/lib/libhal.so.0 to libhal.so.1
That seemed to solve the first error, but now I'm getting an exit error to the following effect:
Code: |
/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_manager_find_device_string_match'
/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_device_property_exists'

/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_find_device_by_capability'
/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_device_lock'
/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_device_get_property_string'
/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_initialize'

/usr/lib/libnautilus-burn.so: undefined reference to `hal_device_get_property_int'

Has anyone seen this, or does anyone have any ideas? I wonder if this is related to the symlink I made, and if so, should I not have done that? I have the latest version of hal installed (0.5.5.1) if that helps at all....
Thanks in advance,
Nathan |

I love rhythmbox so much, it's definitely one of my most used applications and I've loved it ever since I switched from BEEP a few years back. I just noticed this topic, and I'm compiling as I type, I'll let everybody know how it fairs. |

It appears to be working great! The last.fm plugin is reading my songs and it seems a bit quicker overall. |

I'm still having the ACCESS VIOLATION error also. Haven't found anything to fix the problem. |

I discovered a small bug when compared to 0.9.1. When you push the close button, the player now exits instead of minimizing to the tray. _________________

I fixed this using the straight ebuild command, I'm not really sure what the problem was but this worked for me
Code: | ebuild /usr/portage/media-sound/rhythmbox/rhythmbox-0.9.2.ebuild install
ebuild /usr/portage/media-sound/rhythmbox/rhythmbox-0.9.2.ebuild postinst
ebuild /usr/portage/media-sound/rhythmbox/rhythmbox-0.9.2.ebuild qmerge |

Thats a new *feature* and no I don't like it either

Support for this has recently been added to the cvs version, although I can't make any claims about how well it works at the moment |

So they import the *feature* in 0.9.1 and remove it in 0.9.2?

Thanks kernja, that worked. 0.9.2 is great, only thing is my volume control has disappeared. The box is still there, but there's no icon in it, and the box is about 5 by 5 pixels. |

click on it, that brings up the volume control (either that or it was fixed immediately in 0.9.2-cvs) |

This is more of a general question, not specific to this version, but is there anyway to get the tags off the current stream that you are listening too, rather than the stream name as giving in the library? I'd like to know what I'm listening to _________________ Tyan Tiger MPX 2466
