|
|
Just upgraded to KDE 3.5.0
* System sound is working okay, but XMMS cannot find the soundcard.
* Now I'm back on KDE 3.4 and things are working okay.
Anyone else in the same boat?
I noticed the new '-nas' flag for arts-3.5.0, anyone know if that's the problem?

Try perhaps to reemerge xmms.
Perhaps is there some way during the compilation process that a link is established between the current KDE.
Since you are using 2 setup of KDE on the same computer, xmms is therefore perhaps linked to your old KDE (in which you emerged it) and not in the new one ? |

My problem is solved... well, sort of.
I've been running XMMS using the aRts output plug-in for a year. I haven't had any problems until upgrading to KDE 3.5.0.
I switched over to the ALSA XMMS plugin (emerge media-plugins/xmms-alsa) and now it's working great.
Thanks for the tip feivelda. |

I've gone further : I have set up "-arts" in my use flags in my /etc/make.conf
Now, arts is not compiled at all in KDE, so I suppose my packages are lighter, I can remove some specific packages related to arts (like xmms-artsplugin),...
arts is no use since you have OSS or ALSA (I don't know however which one is the best between OSS and ALSA. Seems to be ALSA, but not sure) |

Whit alsa you are able to play sounds from more than one source. OSS blocks the sound card, but on alsa the dmix plugin is activated as standard. So there is no need to use arts anymore.
There are several guides how to use all kde sound functions without arts, but who need ... |
