Although I'm a Gaim user I was pretty excited when I read this with regards to Kopete on the KDE web page:
"With support for audio and video devices, Kopete users can now make use of MSN and Yahoo! webcams."
http://www.kde.org/announcements/visualguide-3.5.php
However after installing KDE 3.5 along with the new Kopete I can't find any audio support. There is a tab in the Kopete configuration labled devices and even though it states:
"Here you can alter kopete's video and audio device settings"
It doesn't actually contain any audio options. Have I missed an important use flag or is Kopete's audio support a myth?

If you scroll down a little to the section with Webcam support.. You'll get your answer, wich is:

Webcam support, but no audio support..

Thanks! Very dissapointing Guess I´ll just have to wait for Gaim 2 which is supposed to have voice support. BTW I still don't understand why it mentions audio in the options.

Now THAT is supremely dumb! What's the point of webcam without audio? (assuming you're not using it to watch strippers or something)

DAMN IT! I went out and bought a damn web cam, spent the whole day compiling KDE-3.5, spent the whole night trying to get audio in my kopete, and now I find out there is no damn audio!

I have video working great, but what the hell am I going to do with that without audio!

%#@!%$#@!!!

Yeah ... I think audio is, first, more, REALLY MORE important than video support ...
if audio work well, then add video ...

gaim 2 goes out in few time, and they will be support audio and video ... I hope kopete will support it too in the same time :d

see it soon :d

What about using ANOTHER program to handle the voice? Has anyone done that? For example use Kopete for video along with tex-chatting, and use Skype at the same time to chat to the other person.

Any thoughts?

too much work. why kopete did this (webcam w/o audio) is beyond me. I'll remain loyal to gaim, especially now that the gaim's god works for google.

Heh, I was a big gaim user until I switched to kde, and then I thought "Why have all these libs I don't use for anything but gaim" Looks like I'll be emerging all those again!
