I dont know if this is the right plae to post ths but her we go...
I did the xorgconfig and I inputed the following
7.- 31.5 - 57.0: High Frequency SVGA 1024x768@70Hz
1.-50-70
and on the card definition
I put
25.- Sis (Generic)

My video card (acording to what I rmember and what the live cd says when it boots) is:
*VideoCard: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]|SiS630 GUI Accelerator+3D

Ok everything ok but when i put startx my monitor goes black and then it acts af it was unpluged which is weird

any idea in how to fix this?!

I tried with the option:
493 which is SiS 3D PRO AGP
and it didnt work either...
I am beginig to think is not the video card the rpiblem but the monitor?!
what do you think?!
How do I know if my monitor is suported or if the option i inputed is corrected (I mean, I know it can do 1024x768 since i have already had this resolution with other O.S.)

Ok, few questions.

1) Do you have your kernel setup for your video card?

2) What is your xorg.conf right now? (Would you please post the monitor, screen, device and server layout sections?)

3) What are you running for a Desktop Environment and what is your login manager?

4) Have you setup your rc.conf to run the DE and login manager?

Also, a good way to check for your hardware (pci devices here, other commands for other components (usb, modules, etc...) is by running:

Code:
lspci

This should give you all the detail you need to setup any pci device (that is if the device is installed and setup correctly in physically and in your kernel)

If lspci gives you correct information on your card (and doesn't say that it is an unknown device) then your kernel should be setup properly to at least read your card. If you can't use lspci then it probably means that you don't have it emerged. It is bundled with pciutils, so:

Code:
emerge pciutils

Is your xorg.conf post on that link your current xorg.conf? If so then I think it looks alright.

Another thing that you could check is your error log. I can't remember the location but if you startx and get the blank screen, then hit: ctrl-alt-f1. This will bring you back to terminal 1. (you can switch f1 to any of the f1-f4 keys for different terminals, by the way) This should exit out of the graphical loading and (hopefully) will show an error in your terminal which we could work with. It hopefully should also show the location of the log file as well. Hit ctrl-c to cancel the startx process and you'll be back to your terminal screen (you might have to hit ctrl-c twice)

Let me know how it goes :)

The log will also be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Posting that may help also (though I would expect it to be kind of long)

Well, its not really enough for me at least. Something you could try though is to use a generic graphics driver, which should get you something working, at the expense of hardware acceleration. Try changing (in /etc/X11/Xorg.conf) the line that says
Code:

Driver "sis"

to
Code:

Driver "vga"

or
Code:

Driver "vesa"

stupid question: your monitor can support the modes you have set can't it? when you start x it will attempt to run at 1280x1024 with the refresh rates in your config (assuming the config you posted earlier is still current)

On a side note, the PMs aren't necessary, I get emails every time someone replies to a thread I have posted in, nice idea though

i tried and got:

vga: Error
vesa: same problem that the one with sis

just in case, i deleted my reolutions from 1280x1024 to 1024X768 dont think is that but..

anyhow... i kept having the same problem... :S any other ideas!?

btw... your right we get mail but i just though i should use pm :P hahaha :)

Post your Xorg.conf file here so we can see what is going on. Maybe we can spot an error.

Hi.

If your monitor leds start blinking or your power led flashes from yellow to green, it should be a problem with the video mode. I would try using 1024x768@60.

From the info you displayed from the log, this is the only line that I saw that could pose any form of problem, but what you are really looking for is a line where it begins with a WW or (more importantly) EE (which represent 'warning' or 'error' respectively) Are there any of those lines in the log file (especially towards the end of the log?)
