i am using gentoo 2005.1 (gentoo-sources 2.6.14 r-2 compiled manually) and read the alsa handbook on gentoo's website. i used the kernel alsa option (the first) and enabled the right options. when i typed
Code:
 cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp
it didnt make static on my speaker like it was supposed to.) i used alsaconfig and chose my right soundcard.) i then rebooted and tried the same command and it said
Quote:
/dev/dsp: device busy
. i checked lsmod and all the right modules are running and gnome mixer is running. im not used configuring sound--ive been spoiled coming from autoconfiguration w/feodora core.
thank you
robert

What soundcard are you using ? latest kernels have issues with Intel Hidef cards (ICH5).

Did sound work with fedora ?
