Hello

Does anyone know how I can play the trailers on this site in firefox? http://videodetective.com/home.asp?PublishedID=318

I have installed mplayerplug-in but when I try to watch a trailer with it it just says connecting to server without getting anywhere.

On the hp they say you need activeX in order to watch the trailers but I can only find it for Windows.

So does anyone know how I can make this site work with firefox (I woul prefer not being forced to install iexplorer in wine just to open one page)

In terms of essoteric format support mplayer is slightly better than xine, so I would go with a solution based on mplayer. I dont know anything about the mplayer plugin, because I found it so buggy in the past and just decided to go with another solution. I use kmplayer, wich embed nicely in konqueror, but I supose that being a nsplugin it should work the same in firefox, so you could give it a try. Those are my use flags for mplayer and kmplayer, in case you still cant get it to play the trailers.

Code:

[ebuild   R   ] media-video/kmplayer-0.9.0c  -arts -debug -gstreamer +kdeenablefinal +mplayer +xine -xinerama 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre7-r1  -3dfx +3dnow -3dnowext +X +aac -aalib +alsa (-altivec) -arts -bidi -bl +cdparanoia +cpudetection +custom-cflags -debug -dga +directfb -doc -dts -dv -dvb +dvd +dvdread -edl +encode -esd +fbcon -ggi +gif -gtk -i8x0 -ipv6 -jack -joystick +jpeg -libcaca -lirc -live +lzo +mad +matroska -matrox +mmx -mmxext -mythtv -nas +nls +nvidia +opengl -oss +png -real +rtc -samba -sdl +sse -sse2 -svga -tga +theora +truetype -v4l -v4l2 +vorbis +win32codecs -xanim -xinerama -xmms +xv +xvid -xvmc 0 kB

In the past I used also gxine in conjuction with opera, but the xine engine had problems with some files.

Yes, I can see the trailers without any problem (a warning page appears but there are three links at the bottom where I can choose to skip the warning and see the trailer in three different qualities). I have used konqueror with kmplayer.

The issue is if kmplayer works ok with firefox or not. I use konqueror so cant be sure but i am emerging opera right now. If it works ok with opera then there is no reason to think that I won't with firefox. I will report as soon as opera is installed and I can check again (will take some time, though, I have to emerge libstdc++ also ;) I will let you know.

Opera does not use kmplayer, at least not in an easy way. Im trying to use netscape-plugger to do it, but no success for now. I was wrong, kmplayer uses other mechanism to integrate with konqueror, it seems that it is not a nsplugin.

Still you have another alternative if mplayerplug-in does not work. Try to emerge gxine with the "nsplugin" use flag on, that should work ;) If I have any sucess with the other way I will let you know.

If I try gxine with the nsplugin set i get this error:

Code:
xine engine failed to start.

No input plugin found.
Maybe the file does not exist, has wrong permissions or
URL syntax error.
