I normally run KDE 3.4.1 and then I went to 3.3.2 to see if xscreensaver worked. The wizard appeared that set up KDE 3.3.2. I did my dirty work. Then I went back into KDE 3.4.1 and all my settings and personal things were gone. Kontact lost all my info including my contacts, my calandar, even my wallet is gone!! The environment is reset to defaults for 3.3.2, thought that doesn't bother me as much as the loss.
Is there anything I can do to recover my data? |

Look in your home directory for ~/.kde which is supposed to be a symlink to the directory of settings for the right version of KDE. Maybe when you ran 3.3.2 it changed the symlink. |

Thank you. It solved the problem. The directory was .kde.backup that held my old data. I'm now back up and running with all my old contacts, settings, and wallets. Renaming the directories worked. I renamed .kde.backup to .kde3.4 because I found that it was reading the 3.4 directory the whole time. Which is why symlinking wouldn't work...at least .kde->.kde3.4... |
